Building Investigative Capacity for Safer Workplaces: A Look Back at Our Training with Watoto Ministries
Internal Risk Management Group(IRMG) had the opportunity to partner with Watoto Ministries in delivering a Workplace Investigations Capacity Building Training at their downtown Kampala offices.
Watoto Ministries sought to enhance their internal capacity to conduct fair, survivor-centered investigations that align with both policy and international standards. Our role as IRMG was to support this vision by equipping participants with practical tools and frameworks to: Identify and mitigate organizational risks, conduct thorough, unbiased investigations, handle sensitive cases with professionalism and empathy and strengthen safeguarding systems for children and staff.
This three-day training brought together staff from across Watoto’s departments HR, Medical, Education, Finance, Baby Watoto, and more with a shared commitment to strengthening internal accountability and safeguarding practices.
Each day focused on a key area of investigative practice:
- Day 1: Foundations of administrative investigations, grievance management, and power dynamics
- Day 2: Investigation principles, team roles, Terms of Reference (TOR), and risk management
- Day 3: Evidence gathering, report writing, disciplinary hearings, and legal review processes
Participants walked away with:
- A deeper understanding of ethical and legal responsibilities in investigations
- Improved skills in evidence handling and reporting
- Greater confidence in managing disciplinary processes
- A renewed commitment to fostering a culture of transparency and accountability
